| James "the real James" Call is the eccentric son of two
deranged yuppies from Marin County, essentially an upscale suburb of San
Francisco. He is the son of rock star, Alex Call, former head of 70ıs supergroup,
Clover
and co-author crappy pop songs such as "867-5309/Jenny." James Call
has been composing his nerdy brand of lunatic synth-pop for at least 5
years and maybe more. In the past, he has collaborated with many musicians
of a wide spectrum of genres and performed sporadically in several bands,
including the Dancing Algerians who combined rousing renditions of Jamesı
songs sung over pre-recorded rhythm tracks with bizarre performance art
pieces. He currently resides in Queens, New York where he is performing
regularly in a "crap-core" group called German Cars vs American Homes.
Jamesı non music-related activities include reading about political history,
debauchery and recording uninteresting conversations and compiling them
on cassette tapes. His musical influences are varied but obviously include
David Byrne, Elvis Costello, They Might Be Giants and Devo. James was recently
offered record deals by executives of several companies because of demo
copies of his album, "Power" but was later turned down when they decided
that he doesn't sound enough like Beck. |
