| Crippled by Deppression #2: Why Don't Nobody Love Me? |
Usually I don’t like it – at all – when
the internet is transcribed onto paper. Reprinted blogs: never intended for
paper and thus don’t belong there. Reprinted articles and content
from websites: plagiarism?
But with Adam Beebe’s latest publication, why don’t nobody love
me? (the second issue of Crippled by Depression), I may have to make a slight
revision to my reprinted-internet-content policy with zines. Adam’s
zine consists entirely of his personal ad posts on craigslist.org and the
various threads and responses to his self-introductions. The tone is
humorous and light, though you may either delight in or feel awkward about
reading so many various young peoples’ self-descriptions (and sometimes
self-diagnoses) which, at least for Adam, include myriad of psychological
/ social disorders and the consistent use of phrases like “skinny-ass
honky-nerd man-child,” and “whiteboy loser artist.” Interspersed
among the reprinted posts are reprinted photographs that accompanied them,
as well as Adam’s highly sexualized pen-and-ink drawings of women. Though
it’s not a bargain, it is definitely a cohesively produced concept.

One of the best zines I have seen lately. Primarily a collection of personal ads Adam posted on the Craigslist personals. Most of his postings are humourous and provoking. I love the witty and at times insulting banter with the women who actually write back.
Along with the collection of correspondence, he has sketches of women who I would rate as gorgeous. He has even included pictures of some of the lucky ladies who answered his posts, with eyes black-barred out of course. There are even a few pics of the skinny-ass, honkey-nerd man-child himself.I love personal zines and this has the added benifit of playing with cyber dating, which I am all too familiar with myself. All hail Adam and his many art projects. I'd never want you as room mate, but I'd buy you a drink anytime. Grog, thechickenfishspeaks.com
This zine is a collection of personal ads placed by a guy named Adam and the responses he received from a bunch of women. In the ads Adam describes himself as a tall skinny honky nerd wimp looking for a little love. He says he was just interested in seeing what type of woman would respond, if any. Well plenty did respond and started a dialogue with Adam which he gathered together to create this zine. The result is a funny, somewhat absurd exchange of information between people that have at least one thing in common; they read personal ads. Adam also claims to be an artist and I think that explains all the drawings of girls in this zine, most in bra and panties (or maybe they're bikinis). Accompanying Adam's drawings are also a bunch photos sent to Adam by the women that replied to his posts. I thought this was better than most of the straight perzines I've read and it's funny! almost normal comics

About Adam, an artist, and his search for a girlfriend through Craigslist. His posts are funny and real and the answers range from amusing young girls to actual possibilities. The zine is also filled with illustrations by Adam. It's a fun, quick read and a glimpse into a single's search for companionship through personals. I found myself smiling at the entire thing.
